Training Philosophy: Results By Design, Not Coincidence

As an elite national-level athlete and a long-time coach, I have learned about physical training and human performance from both perspectives: trainer and trainee. I've worked under some phenomenal coaches while in training myself, and spent five years head coaching and developing elite competitive swimmers and tri-athletes. For the past four years, I have also been 'personal training' individual clients with great success and a consistent ability to deliver results.  My vision and training methodology are products of my own unique evolution as an elite athlete, coach, and student of the human body, and are supported by professional hands-on experience, and constant reading and research in the field.

I believe in an intelligent approach to training and that is why my programs deliver the highest quality results in the shortest possible time; every decision I make has a purpose in producing that outcome. Every training variable, nutritional protocol and lifestyle adjustment has a solid foundation that supports each individual's progression toward his or her goal.

There are no magic tricks to improving health and fitness. For this reason, I don’t subscribe to any one school of thought or training philosophy to the exclusion of others.  I don’t favour one training method over another.  I don’t select certain training tools just for the sake of adding variety to my training programs. The key to success is using the proper tools and methods for each individual – those that will bring about the intended results the quickest.

I am still developing my training philosophy, and probably always will be, since what we know about health and fitness is forever evolving.

The human body is fascinating, and I am constantly intrigued by its incredible potential. My passion for my profession makes it very hard for me to go through a day without reading, watching or listening to new information on anything that is related to the health/fitness industry. My passion for always improving keeps me on my toes and this is why I read voraciously, attend classes and seminars regularly, and contact experts in the training field to seek their advice on how I can improve my training methods.

There are a few outstanding leaders in the field who I admire and whose methods and philosophies influence me a great deal.  I like to think of their inspiration as, “standing on the shoulders of giants,” as Isaac Newton once said.  I love doing what I do, and I have learned from the best. This is why my principles work, and why people who train with me are so successful in reaching their goals.
