Fight the fat, not yourself!

Staying on course is easy when you're getting the results you want, but training hard, watching what you eat, and living a healthy life can be difficult when you find your fat loss journey in a rut. Frustration, depression, and a simple lack of motivation can quickly derail your efforts to stay on track, unless you can recognize set backs for what they really are, and use them to your benefit.

I know I shouldn’t

Big changes are accomplished with little steps. Unfortunately, this adage applies to both positive and negative changes.  For example, after months of working hard to lose fat and reshape your body, you notice that old habits are starting to slip back into your routine –  a cookie with your morning coffee to get the day started, a sweet treat while watching television in the evening just to lift your spirits, skipping meals because you're just 'too tired', or picking up fast food on the way home because it's convenient. You've made progress and know you shouldn’t indulge, but you do it anyway, hoping it will make you feel better about whatever it is that's beating you down emotionally. How ironic that we often turn to the very same habits and comforts that made us unhappy with our bodies in the first place! It’s a vicious cycle.  Get out NOW!

Many of us go through self-defeating phases during this bloody fat loss battle.  In order to keep yourself on track and create situations in which you can only be a winner and failing is not an option, you must dig deep within yourself to figure out what is causing your minor set back?

Potential Set Backs

Emotional responses to certain triggers are often behind your defeatist behavior. For example, you may have seen some recent photos of yourself that you hated, and that made you realize that, despite all your hard work and dedication, you haven't progressed as much as you thought you did. Or maybe you're pissed off that family and friends haven't been complimenting (or maybe even noticing!). Or perhaps your love handles are pulling at the fabric of that special dress or cute pair of jeans hanging in your closet, and you hate that feeling.

What you’re experiencing as set backs in the middle of your journey are the very same reasons that motivated and drove you to alter your lifestyle in the first place.  You wanted to change and live at your potential, feel phenomenal and look fantastic. You wanted to be able to walk down the street on a hot summer day and feel comfortable in your own skin.  Remember?
With a little perspective and reflection about why you wanted to change in the first place, you can once again look at 'set backs' as what they really are – your motivation to keep going forward. Only you have the power to change your own life for the better and to make this happen.  Nobody said it was going to be easy, but just know that it’s more than worth it to fight this fight, so that each day can bring you closer to your goals.
